Leg Burn from Motorcycle Exhaust - Looking for Advice!

Seeking Help for Exhaust Burns

I recently had a pretty nasty experience while riding my motorcycle, and I’m hoping some of you can share your insights or advice. I suffered a leg burn from the motorcycle exhaust, and it was not only painful but also caused a bit of a scare.

Here’s what happened:

While I was riding, I unfortunately got a bit too close to the exhaust, and it resulted in a burn on my leg. I’ve heard that this is a common issue for riders, but I wasn’t really prepared for the level of pain it caused.

What I Need:

I’m trying to figure out the best ways to treat this burn and also prevent it from happening in the future. Here are a few questions I have:

  • What are the best first aid treatments for exhaust burns? I’ve done some initial care, but I want to be sure I’m doing it right.
  • How can I prevent this in the future? Any tips on maintaining distance from the exhaust or any gear I should consider?
  • Are there specific products designed to offer protection from exhaust burns? I’m willing to invest in some protective gear if it can help avoid this in the future.

My experience has left me on the lookout for both treatment options and preventative measures.

Sharing Experiences:

I’d love to hear from anyone who has dealt with similar burns. What did you do for recovery? Did you learn any tricks for avoiding burns while riding? Any brands or products that worked well for you?

Thanks in advance for your help and advice! Let’s keep each other safe on the road.

I experienced leg burns from my exhaust last summer! One thing that really helped was investing in heat-resistant leg guards. They can deflect the heat quite effectively.

That’s great advice! I’ve heard that kevlar pants also provide a good barrier against heat. Anyone tried that?

Yes, kevlar pants are a solid choice! They’re durable and can handle high temperatures. Plus, they keep you safe in case of a fall!

I agree, but they can be expensive! Are there any budget options for protective gear that can help?

There are decent budget options out there! Look for denim blends with heat-resistant fibers. They won’t break the bank and can prevent burns effectively.

Sounds good! I’m also curious about the placement of the exhaust. Could changing it reduce burn risks?

Definitely! If you can reposition your exhaust further from your legs, that can help. Some aftermarket exhausts are designed with heat deflection in mind.

Awesome tip! Has anyone found a specific model that works well?

I have a custom slip-on that works wonders! Heat is significantly reduced, and I’ve had no burns since. Happy to share the brand if you’re interested!

Yes, please! I’m all ears! And for fun: If all else fails, maybe we can just wear fireproof shorts, right? Just kidding!

Ouch! I hope you’re feeling okay. For immediate care, cool the burn with running water for about 10-20 minutes. Never apply ice directly! Afterward, you can apply an antibiotic ointment. Always keep it clean!

Great advice, kelly22! I’ll definitely keep that in mind. For home remedies, I’ve heard that aloe vera is soothing. Has anyone tried that?

You’re spot on about aloe vera, westemily! It’s known for its healing properties. Just make sure you use pure aloe, not products with added chemicals. If the burn looks severe or blisters, see a doctor.

I once burned my leg pretty badly on my exhaust and treated it with honey! It helps with healing and prevents infection. Just a thin layer, and cover it with a bandage.

That’s important advice. When is it too much to handle at home? I’d hate to underestimate a burn’s seriousness.

Good question, anthonyblake! If you notice deep redness, swelling, or if the pain is unbearable, definitely seek medical attention right away. Better safe than sorry!

Honey, huh? That’s pretty sweet! Just don’t go licking it off after, right?! But really, it is antibacterial.

Ha! Good one, vduran! But on a serious note, I always keep a burn gel at home for emergencies. Just spray it on the burn and it helps with the pain as well.

I’ve got to get some of that! Do you have a particular brand you recommend, or do they all work the same?
