Best Exhaust Pipes for My Harley Davidson Fatboy?

I’m on the hunt for new exhaust pipes for my Harley Davidson Fatboy, and I could really use some advice from the community.

Why I’m Upgrading

I’ve been thinking about upgrading my exhaust system for a while now. I’m looking for something that not only enhances the performance of my bike but also gives it that signature Harley roar.

What I’m Looking For

Here are a few things I hope to achieve with my new exhaust pipes:

  • Performance Boost: I want to improve throttle response and maybe even add a little horsepower.
  • Sound: I’m after that deep, throaty sound that turns heads. I’ve heard some pipes sound amazing while others are too quiet.
  • Aesthetics: It’s important that the pipes match the overall look of my Fatboy. I like a sleek, aggressive look without going overboard.
  • Durability: I ride quite a bit, so I need something that can withstand the elements and resist corrosion.

Brands I’m Considering

So far, I’ve heard a lot about brands like Vance & Hines, Bassani, and whatnot. Has anyone had experience with these?

Questions for the Community

  1. What are your recommendations? Any particular models you’ve found to deliver on performance and sound?
  2. Installation: Are these easy to install? Do I need additional components or modifications?
  3. Price Range: What should I expect to spend on a good set of exhaust pipes?

I’m excited to hear your thoughts and recommendations! Thanks in advance for your help.

Stainless steel is generally more durable than chrome and can withstand harsher conditions. It’s also less prone to rusting, making it a better long-term investment for your Fatboy.

That’s true! But some people really love the shiny chrome finish for aesthetics. It really depends on what you’re looking for in terms of style!

I started with chrome on my Fatboy, but after a couple of winters, I regretted it. The stainless offers a matte but classy look that I prefer now. Plus, it lasts way longer!

Exactly! I think chrome can look great, but if you’re riding in different climates, stainless is the way to go for sure.

Don’t forget about sound! Some stainless steel pipes can enhance performance and give you that deep rumble we all love. Has anyone done a side-by-side comparison?

Great point, Tanner! I’d love to hear from anyone who’s made the switch between stainless and chrome. What differences did you notice?

I had chrome pipes and they looked amazing until they started peeling. Definitely got stainless for my next upgrade—no more heat markings for me!

That’s a common issue with chrome. I think manufacturers might be cutting corners nowadays. Anyone know any reputable brands?

I feel like there’s a divide here between those who swear by chrome for looks and those who prioritize durability with stainless. Can we all just get along? :joy:

Haha! Well, aesthetics vs. functionality is always a hot topic. Just make sure whatever you choose fits your riding style!

When choosing exhaust pipes for a Fatboy, consider how baffle design affects sound. Straight pipes provide an aggressive tone, while baffled systems offer a deeper, quieter rumble. What’s your priority: sound or performance?

I’ve been looking at Vance & Hines and Screamin’ Eagle options. They offer different characteristics. Anyone have experience with those?

Definitely go with Vance & Hines! They offer that classic, aggressive sound without being overwhelmingly loud. Plus, the build quality is top-notch. You can’t go wrong!

I’ve heard mixed things about Screamin’ Eagle. Some folks say it’s too quiet for a Harley! What do others think about performance versus sound output?

I agree! I had a buddy who swapped his Screamin’ Eagle for a Rinehart, and the difference was night and day. Way more growl with the Rinehart!

I think it depends on your riding style. If you’re cruising, a quieter system is nice. But if you’re hitting the throttle, you want something that barks! My Black Elite pipes scream with authority!

What about adding a header upgrade? It can really affect both sound and power. I paired mine with slip-ons and the bike sounds amazing now!

That sounds intriguing! Is there a specific header you’d recommend that works well with a Fatboy?

For headers, check out the Freedom Performance ones. They really enhance both sound and performance. Just be prepared for a serious roar if you go that route!
