Best Driving Lights for My Harley Davidson?

Seeking Advice on Harley Davidson Driving Lights

I’m looking to enhance my riding experience and safety, especially during night rides and foggy conditions. I’ve heard a lot about driving lights and fog lights specifically designed for Harley-Davidson motorcycles, but I’m not quite sure what the best options are out there.

What to Consider

When choosing driving lights for my Harley, I want to keep a few things in mind:

  • Brightness: How bright do these lights need to be for better visibility without being too glaring?
  • Durability: I ride through various weather conditions, so I need something that can withstand the elements.
  • Installation: Is it easy to install these lights, or do I need to take my bike to a mechanic?
  • Price: What price range should I expect for quality driving lights?

Any Recommendations?

I’ve seen a few brands mentioned like LED options that promise better visibility and efficiency. Are there specific models that you all recommend? Are there any reviews out there that detail the pros and cons?

I’d appreciate any insights or personal experiences you can share! Thanks in advance for the help!

Looking forward to your suggestions!

For Harley-Davidson bikes, LED driving lights are often preferred due to their brightness and longevity. They typically have a better beam pattern compared to halogen lights, which can give you better visibility on the road.

I’ve heard that the brightness from LEDs can range from 3000 to 12000 lumens. What brands do you recommend for solid performance?

LED lights are fantastic, but don’t overlook halogen options if you’re on a budget. They still offer decent brightness and beam patterns, just not as efficiently as LEDs.

Halogens can be great if you’re more about that classic vibe. Plus, swapping them out is usually easier and cheaper!

If you’re looking for brand recommendations, I’ve had great success with Auxbeam and Daytona Twin Tec. They offer both LEDs and halogen options.

Those brands are solid! I also like J.W. Speaker for their highly rated LED options. The quality and beam pattern are exceptional.

Brightness matters a lot! Remember to check if they have a flood or spot beam pattern. Flood is great for wide visibility, while spot can focus on distant objects.

Good point! Does anyone know how high up the lights should be mounted on a Harley for optimal visibility?

Typically, mounting them around 12-18 inches above the ground gives a good line of sight. Just make sure they’re not too high to avoid blinding oncoming traffic.

I once tried a set of cheap eBay lights and they lasted about a week before burning out. You get what you pay for, folks!

LOL! Lesson learned, right? Stick to reputable brands for long-term reliability!

In the end, it all comes down to personal preference and riding conditions. Your choices should reflect what you feel you need most!

I’ve added driving lights to my Harley and it made a huge difference at night! For the installation, I used some basic hand tools and a wiring kit specific for my model. Be sure to secure your wiring properly to avoid any issues later.

That’s awesome! Did you have any trouble with the wiring? I’m concerned about getting the connections right.

Installation can be tricky! I recommend checking out some YouTube tutorials. They helped me a lot with the wiring techniques. Plus, don’t forget to use heat shrink tubing for the connections to keep them safe.

Great idea! I will definitely look for videos. How long did it take you to install them?

Took me about 2-3 hours, but it was worth it! Just be patient with the wiring. I used a multimeter to troubleshoot some grounding issues after I finished, which helped a bunch.

I’m definitely going to get one of those. Can I ask, was it easy to find a good spot to mount the lights?

Finding the right spot depends on your bike model. I mounted mine just below the headlight. It has good visibility but doesn’t obstruct anything. Just make sure it’s sturdy enough to withstand vibrations!
