Why Does My 5.3 Sputter When I Accelerate?

Don’t forget about vacuum leaks! A leak could be the sneaky culprit behind sputtering. Check hoses and connections.

I had a similar sputtering issue with my 5.3 a while back! It turned out to be a clogged fuel filter. Replacing it made a huge difference! Check that first.

That’s interesting, I never thought about the fuel filter! Did you replace it yourself or go to a mechanic?

I took mine to a trusted local mechanic who specializes in 5.3 engines. He found a faulty spark plug. Replacing that solved my problems instantly!

Wow, it sounds like there are a lot of potential causes for this sputtering. What kind of mechanic did you see, Erica? I’m looking for recommendations!

I go to Robinson’s Garage; they really know their stuff with 5.3 engines. If you’re in the area, I’d recommend giving them a try!

I had such a funny experience the last time I went to my mechanic. I asked him about sputtering, and he tried to blame it on my driving style! But it turned out to be a simple issue.

Thanks for sharing everyone’s experiences! I’m definitely curious now, could low oil levels cause similar symptoms? Just wondering…

In my experience, low oil can affect engine performance but not usually cause sputtering. You might want to check the O2 sensors too if they are acting up.

My 5.3 started sputtering after I used some cheap fuel. After switching to premium, it improved a lot! Worth considering if you haven’t tried that yet.
