Looking for the Best Exhaust Pipes for My Harley Davidson 48

Introduction

I recently got my hands on a Harley Davidson Forty-Eight, and I’m absolutely in love with this bike! The power, the style, everything is just perfect. However, I feel there’s something missing in terms of sound and performance. I’ve been considering upgrading the exhaust pipes, but there’s a lot of options out there.

Why Upgrade Exhaust?

Upgrading the exhaust system isn’t just about aesthetics; it can significantly affect your bike’s performance and sound. Here’s what I aim to achieve with new exhaust pipes:

  • Sound: I want a deeper, more aggressive sound that complements the bike’s character.
  • Performance: I’m looking for a setup that enhances performance, ideally improving throttle response and increasing horsepower.
  • Style: Let’s be honest, a sleek set of pipes can give the bike that extra edge in looks.

Options I’ve Considered

  1. Vance & Hines: They have a good reputation, and I’ve heard great things about their pipes. I’m particularly eyeing the Shortshots, as they look fantastic and are known for their performance.
  2. Screamin’ Eagle: Their options seem to be tailored specifically for Harley, but I’d like to hear opinions on this one. Are they worth the investment?
  3. Bassani: I’ve read some excellent reviews about their Road Rage systems. Have any of you had experience with these?

Community Feedback

I know various members have modified their 48s with different exhausts. I’d love to hear:

  • Your experiences with different brands.
  • Sound clips if you have them, or links to videos showing the exhaust sound.
  • Installation tips or tricks.

Conclusion

I’m looking to make a decision soon, so any feedback or recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Let’s hear your thoughts, folks! :man_biking::sparkles:

I recently switched to Vance & Hines pipes on my 48, and the difference in horsepower is incredible. The bike feels way more responsive now!

Absolutely! The increased torque makes for a much better ride, especially on open roads. Have you noticed any change in sound?

I went with Rinehart pipes, and the torque improvement was really noticeable. It gives that throaty growl too. What kind of performance upgrades did you see?

That’s great to hear! I’ve been debating between Rinehart and Vance & Hines. Do you think Rinehart is worth the extra cash?

For me, the sound of the Vance & Hines was a game-changer. I even had a few friends compliment me on it after the upgrade! Plus, I’ve noticed overall better responsiveness, especially in city rides.

Supportive opinions here! I think choosing exhaust pipes can significantly change your riding experience. It’s fantastic to see so many options out there tailored for our Harleys.

Did you make any other changes alongside the exhaust upgrade? I’m curious if there’s a magic combo for even more performance.

Honestly, my experience with aftermarket pipes has always been a mixed bag. Some increase performance, but others just sound good. It’s all about what you’re looking to enhance!

Totally agree with you! I tried a cheap brand once, and it did nothing for my Harley. I’ll stick with trusted brands from now on.

Exactly! That’s what keeps the customization fun. Anyone tried the Bassani pipes? I’ve heard mixed reviews on those.

I haven’t tried Bassani personally, but I have a buddy who’s swore by them for years. The sound is aggressive, but I can’t speak for the performance boost.

Why do some pipes have such a hefty price tag? It’s like paying for a fancy dinner that doesn’t taste any better! Anyone else find that amusing?

I just installed Vance & Hines Shortshots on my 48. The sound is incredible—deep and throaty! Visually, they add a nice aggressive vibe that really complements the bike’s design.

That’s awesome! I’m considering the Rinehart Racing pipes. I’ve heard they have a more classic sound. How do the Shortshots compare in that aspect?

Rinehart pipes are great! They have a unique, powerful rumble, and they look stunning on the 48. The chrome finish really pops! Definitely worth a listen.

Agreed! But what about the sound profile? How do they sound at highway speeds?

At highway speeds, the Rineharts are more mellow but maintain a nice growl. It’s not harsh on the ears, and they still turn heads when you pass by!

I had Supertrapp pipes on my previous bike. The adjustable disc system lets you really customize the sound. However, they were a bit bulky visually for my taste.

That’s interesting. What do you think about the Scorpion exhaust? They are sleek and have a different sound profile.
