Looking for Recommendations on 1966 Mustang Floor Mats

Seeking Advice on 1966 Mustang Floor Mats

I’ve recently purchased a classic 1966 Ford Mustang, and I’m pretty excited to start restoring it to its former glory. One of the things I want to tackle soon is the interior, specifically the floor mats.

What to Consider?

I’ve been looking into various options and wanted to get some input from fellow Mustang enthusiasts:

  • Original vs. Replica: Are the original mats worth the investment for a restoration project, or do the replicas hold up just as well? I’m leaning towards something that balances quality and cost.
  • Material Choices: I’ve seen mats made from different materials. What do you recommend for durability and aesthetics? Rubber, carpet, or something else?
  • Fit and Finish: Since it’s a classic car, I want to ensure whatever I get, fits perfectly and looks great. Any specific brands or places to purchase that you’ve had good experiences with?
  • Maintenance: Once I get the mats, what’s the best way to maintain them? Any tips on cleaning or protecting them would be appreciated.

Where to Buy?

I’ve checked a few online retailers, but I’d love to hear your suggestions. Are there specialty shops or online stores that offer a good selection of aftermarket mats? Perhaps even local places?

Share Your Thoughts!

I’m eager to hear your experiences and recommendations. If you could share photos or details of the mats you have in your `66, that would be awesome too! Let’s get a discussion going so I can make the best choice for my restoration project.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I’m looking for floor mats for my 1966 Mustang too! I’ve seen options in rubber and carpet. What do you guys think is better?

I personally prefer rubber mats for their durability, especially if you drive often. The carpet ones can look great, but wear out faster.

I agree with harmonlaura! Rubber mats last longer and are easier to clean. I picked some up from a local store and they fit perfectly in my '66.

I’ve seen some cool custom options online! You can get them embroidered with your Mustang’s logo. Has anyone tried those?

I have custom mats with the Mustang logo! They look amazing but be careful with the material; the high-pile carpet can trap dirt.

I’m curious about the fit too. Are there specific brands you all recommend that align well with the classic '66 Mustang?

I’ve had good luck with Scott Drake mats; they fit like a glove in my Mustang.

What about classic Mustang floor mats with retro designs? I’ve seen some cool ones that really give a vintage vibe!

Totally! I think retro designs add character to the interior, especially if you’re going for that classic look.

Does anyone have experience with weather-resistant mats? I want to protect the carpet but still keep the classic feel.

I’ve used them in my car. They work great, but make sure they are designed for classics to maintain that style!

Honestly, I’ve seen some really cheap options that don’t last. You get what you pay for with floor mats, especially for a classic car.

Exactly! I made that mistake with my first mats—learned the hard way. Invest in quality!

I recently installed floor mats in my '66 Mustang! Make sure to measure the floor before ordering. This helps avoid any awkward fits!

That’s a great tip! Using masking tape to outline the mat area can help ensure a proper fit before committing!

If you’re finding that your mats aren’t staying in place, consider using Velcro pads on the underside. It won’t damage anything and keeps them secure!

Great idea! I was worried about sticking them with something too permanent and damaging the carpet.

Be careful during installation! Use a soft brush to press them down. This ensures even placement and protects the interior from scratching.

Now that’s a handy tip! I might have pushed too hard with my last install and nicked the trim.
