Got RFI Problems with My Holley Sniper EFI - Need Your Advice!

I’ve been running into some frustrating issues with Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) affecting my Holley Sniper EFI system, and I could really use your help! It’s getting to the point where I can’t tell if it’s a tuning problem or if I’m just being plagued by interference.

What I’ve Noticed:

  • My engine stutters at various RPMs, especially when I’m near radio towers or certain electronic devices.
  • The dashboard lights occasionally flicker when I’m accelerating.
  • I’ve read that RFI can play havoc with engine management systems, but I’m not sure where to start troubleshooting.

Things I’ve Tried:

  • Swapping to shielded wires for my fuel injectors and other sensors didn’t seem to help much.
  • Check grounding – made sure my battery and component grounds are solid, but not much change.
  • Also looked into relocating the EFI module, but I’m lost on where it would be most effective.

Questions:

  1. What additional shielding solutions do you all recommend?
  2. Are there any specific products that have worked for you in the past?
  3. Printable guides or resources to help diagnose RFI issues?

Let’s share what we know and hopefully nail down a fix. I’m really hoping to get my EFI performing like it should without all this interference messing things up. Any insights or suggestions would be super appreciated!

I’ve had RFI issues too. The first thing I suggest is making sure you’ve installed the Holley Sniper RFI Shield properly. It should be mounted to a clean, flat surface and makes a huge difference.

Absolutely, and don’t forget to use the right tools! A socket set, screwdrivers, and a multimeter for testing can save a lot of headaches.

When I installed my shield, I didn’t prep the surface properly and it caused more interference. Take that extra time to clean it well!

Good point! Using double-sided tape or adhesive pads can also help mount it securely.

Ensure to keep the wiring as far from other electrical components as possible. This helped reduce my interference issues significantly!

That’s a good tip! Routing the wires away from ignition systems can make a noticeable difference.

I tend to use shielding tape on my wires to minimize interference. It’s been a lifesaver in my setups!

Interesting approach! I’ve never tried that. Did you see a considerable improvement?

Totally agree with you, gmendoza. The installation steps can be tricky. I’ve found having a buddy help makes it go smoother!

Yep, it’s always great to have an extra pair of hands! Plus, it makes the process more fun.

One common pitfall is over-tightening the shield. It can cause more issues than it solves, so be gentle!

True! That was a mistake I made initially. Now I just snug it up without going crazy.

Before I installed mine, I read that grounding the shield can help reduce noise. Did anyone else do this?

I did! It definitely helped my setup. Make sure to use a good quality ground wire!

Installing my Holley Sniper was a wild ride! I pulled out so much hair trying to figure out the wiring. Any favorite tools to use?

I’ve had similar RFI issues with my Holley Sniper EFI. The first thing I’d suggest is to check your ground connections—they’re often the culprit!

Sometimes the issue is just a faulty cable. Make sure you’re using high-quality shielded cables between components.
