ATF-Z1 vs DW-1: Which Honda Transmission Fluid Should I Use?

Definitely! A burnt smell is a red flag. If you’re noticing that, time for a change immediately. Don’t overlook it!

For those who DIY, flushing the system properly can be a bit tricky. Do you all have tips on that?

I’d suggest checking out a detailed YouTube tutorial. It really helped me the first time I did it!

I always thought draining and refilling was enough, but I guess you really need to flush it for proper maintenance. I’ll keep that in mind!

I’ve been using DW-1 in my Honda for a while now, and it seems to work just as well as ATF-Z1. Plus, it’s often cheaper. Has anyone else made the switch?

I tried DW-1 too, but I noticed a slight decrease in responsiveness, especially in colder weather. Anyone else experience that?

I wouldn’t gamble with transmission fluid. ATF-Z1 is specifically designed for Honda! But I get why people look for alternatives.

I understand the concern. Still, alternatives can save money in the long run. What about experimenting with mixed fluids?

Mixing fluids just sounds like a bad idea to me! Stick to one type for consistency. Plus, my mechanic always warns against it.

I’ve heard people using Valvoline ATF for their Hondas too. Anyone tried it? Is it a safe choice?

I tried Valvoline once and it seemed fine. But switching back to DW-1 made my shifts smoother. Just my experience!

Using the right fluid is critical! Not just for performance but also for longevity. I’m curious if anyone has beyond 100k miles using only DW-1?

I hit 120k with DW-1 and had no issues! It performed great, but I always kept up with maintenance. Maybe that’s the key!

Seems to depend on the condition of the car. My neighbor’s Honda is running like a champ with DW-1 after 150k. So there’s hope, I guess!

I like hearing these success stories! Makes me think I should try DW-1 next time. Has to be better than my old fluid!
