Anyone Know the Rear End Width of a Lincoln Versailles?

I’m currently working on a project involving a Lincoln Versailles, and I’m trying to gather some technical specs about the rear end, specifically the width. I want to know:

  • What the exact measurements are for the rear end width.
  • How it compares to other rear ends, especially from the same era or similar vehicle classifications.
  • Any suggestions on where to source this information, or if anyone has experience with using the Versailles rear end in different applications.

Additionally, I’m interested in knowing if there are specific modifications needed when swapping the Versailles rear end into another vehicle. Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

The standard rear end width for a Lincoln Versailles is around 61 inches. To measure accurately, you’ll want to use a tape measure and take the measurement from the inner edges of the mounting points on both sides.

Thanks for the info! When measuring, should I account for any aftermarket modifications? That could change things a bit, right?

Definitely, any changes to the suspension or axle can affect width. Best to measure twice to be sure! Also, using a digital caliper can help with precision.

Great point! I always double-check my surface and the tools. For a lively measurement session, getting a friend to help can make it easier and fun!

Measuring is key! Just be sure your car is on a level surface; that’s a common pitfall. If it’s on uneven ground, your measurements can be off.

Totally agree! I had an old tape measure that was slightly bent, which threw off my measurements. Lesson learned!

Haha, I’ve been there too! Utilizing a square to check 90-degree angles provides additional accuracy when measuring.

Exactly! Have you encountered situations where the measurements didn’t match up? I’d love to hear some stories.

I’ve heard that various production years can differ slightly, so if you have access to a factory service manual, that could offer additional insights.

Yes! That’s a great tip—always good to reference those manuals. Any discrepancies you find can be crucial in narrowing down the exact measurements needed.

Just don’t forget: measure twice, cut once! Though, unless you’re wheel-fitting, you might want to measure thrice just to be safe! :joy:

Has anyone measured the rear end width of their Lincoln Versailles? I heard it’s around 59 inches, but I’d love some confirmation.

You’re right! I’ve measured mine, and it is indeed about 59 inches. It’s pretty close to what you’d find on the Mercury Monarch, too.

That’s interesting, zhangbriana! How does the width affect suspension upgrades? Thinking of making some changes.

The wider stance can improve stability, but you also need to be careful with clearance issues. Sometimes it can conflict with body mods!

Good point, mdavenport! I previously swapped a 9-inch Ford rear end, which was a little wider. It handled well but required fender modifications. Worth it in the end though!

I’ve been considering a similar swap, gloverstacy. How did that affect the overall look and stance?

It gave it a cooler, aggressive stance! Just be careful with tire sizes, too. You don’t want to rub!

You all sound super knowledgeable! Are there any drawbacks to modifying the rear end? I’ve heard mixed things.
