Anyone have tips for buying a Honda PC800 Pacific Coast?

I’m diving into the world of motorcycling and recently came across the Honda PC800 Pacific Coast. I’ve heard it’s a fantastic touring bike with a unique design. Before I take the plunge and look at used models, I wanted to reach out to you all for some advice and insights.

Overview of the Honda PC800

The PC800 is known for its distinctive styling and comfortable ride, perfect for long journeys. It has a semi-faired design that protects riders from the wind and elements while providing a roomy and ergonomic seating position. However, I want to gather more information on various aspects such as:

  • Reliability: How do these bikes hold up over time? Are there common issues I should know about?
  • Performance: What can I expect in terms of power and handling? Is it suitable for both city rides and highway cruising?
  • Maintenance: Any specific maintenance tips or tricks? I’d love to know what to look for when assessing a used model.
  • Upgrades: Are there any recommended modifications or upgrades to enhance the bike’s performance or comfort?

Seeking Buying Advice

I don’t want to rush into buying one, so any guidance on:

  • Best places to look for a reliable used Honda PC800
  • What to look out for during an inspection
  • Fair price ranges for different conditions

Community Input

If anyone is currently riding one, I’d really appreciate your firsthand experiences and what you enjoy most about it. Also, if you know of any forums or resources specifically focused on the PC800, that would be super helpful!

Thanks in advance for all your help! Looking forward to your insights so I can make an informed decision!

Hey there! The Honda PC800 is a fantastic bike, but it does have a few common maintenance quirks. Regular oil changes every 3,000 miles really help. Also, keep an eye on the rear brake pads; they tend to wear out faster. Happy riding!

Absolutely agree, mgonzalez! Also, check the coolant and change it every couple of years to prevent overheating. These bikes can be sensitive to heat!

I’ve had issues with the fuel pump on my PC800. It would cut out on long rides. I replaced it with a newer model, and it made a world of difference. Has anyone else dealt with that?

I had a similar problem! A good service manual will guide you through troubleshooting the electrical system, too. Definitely recommend picking one up.

For maintenance intervals, I suggest following the service manual closely. The valve adjustments every 16,000 miles can save you from costly repairs down the road. It’s important to keep the engine in top shape!

Great tip, bailey30! I’ve also experienced some electrical gremlins. Cleaning the connectors can often fix those weird intermittent issues.

I love my PC800! The under-seat storage is epic, but be careful with the lock mechanism. It can get jammed if not maintained. A little lubricant goes a long way!

So true, harmonlaura! I’m always surprised by how much of a difference simple things like lubricant can make. Maintenance really is key with these beauties!

Just curious, do many of you use synthetic oil? I switched a while back, and I think it helped with engine noise. Any thoughts on this?

I switched to synthetic too, cheyenne29, and it seems smoother. But I’ve read mixed opinions. Some say it can lead to leaks in older engines. Anyone had that experience?

I doubt oil’s gonna make much of a difference. At the end of the day, if your bike’s not maintained properly, it’ll break down! Clean your air filter regularly, folks!

I’ve owned a PC800 for years! One great upgrade is the seat. Aftermarket seats can significantly improve comfort on long rides.

Absolutely! I also recommend looking into grips and windshields for enhanced comfort on the highway.

Performance-wise, consider upgrading the exhaust. It can provide a bit more power and make the ride more enjoyable!

That’s a great idea! But don’t forget to check your local noise regulations before you do.

You can easily customize the look with different body panels. I’ve seen some stunning paint jobs that really stand out!

Totally! But let’s not forget, the PC800’s design is pretty unique. Changing it too much may upset the purists.

A solid upgrade is to install new suspension components. It can completely transform your riding experience!

Great point! But make sure to balance comfort with handling—sometimes sporty is not comfy!
